The Sport Fishing Championship has announced a $1 million grand prize in cryptocurrency for catching fish, with the event beginning in April.

The Sport Fishing Tournament (SFC) has announced one of the greatest first-place awards for saltwater anglers in the Billfish Division, worth the equivalent of $1,000,000 in cryptocurrencies, to be awarded during the season-ending championship in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The award is the first of its kind in North America, with the "grand prize" being given out in bitcoin.

Beginning in April 2022 with the Louisiana Gulf Coast Billfish Classic and concluding in August with the San Juan International Billfish Tournament in Puerto Rico, the SFC offers a 12-event competition series.

To qualify for the SFC Billfish Division Championship, a fishing team must compete in at least three (3) competitions. To determine an end-of-season point total, the SFC will combine a fishing team's three best qualifying tournament scores and add all of the team's qualified catch points throughout the regular season. The SFC will give $100,000 to the first-place Gulf and Atlantic Division teams and $1,000,000 to the top team across all SFC contests at the end of the five-month regular season.

The prize money for the three Championship Fish contests was also announced by the SFC on Thursday. At the end of the SFC season, the angler who catches the heaviest Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Yellowfin tuna across all 12 qualifying competitions will get $50,000. In its initial season, the SFC awarded $1,350,000 in prize money to the top fishermen and fishing teams.

"We've built each of our championships with a single aim in mind: to give our anglers and fishing teams access to large-scale, world-class saltwater angling tournaments," said Sport Fishing Championship commissioner Mark Neifeld. "Our $1 million cryptocurrency prize not only provides an exciting incentive for our competitors, but it also establishes a new standard for a fishing championship's top award and allows our victors to receive their awards in digital currency."

In conjunction with the prize announcement, the SFC established a sustainability relationship with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation (GHOF), which will provide the SFC with essential teaching and conservation knowledge. The organisation will also oversee educational events at the fan fest, including ocean and fish conservation and interactive children's camps.

Dr. Guy Harvey, a world-renowned artist, naturalist, scientist, and entrepreneur, said, "We are very happy to be the benefactor of the Sport Fishing Championship." "We will be able to extend our STEAM curriculum for children and professional development programmes for teachers with this grant. We want to inspire young ocean ambassadors and give them with engaging marine and environmental science activities on a daily basis. It's never been more important to educate our future leaders about marine conservation and ocean sustainability, and the cooperation between SFC and CBS Sports will help raise awareness."

Guy Harvey is a well-known, well-respected company that is committed to environmental sustainability and ocean protection. The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation receives a part of proceeds from all Guy Harvey apparel and product purchases to support ocean research, education, and conservation activities (GHOF). The non-profit is committed to safeguarding the oceans by funding groundbreaking research and mentoring the next generation of ocean conservationists.

The GHOF has just started rolling out a marine science instructional curriculum for students in grades K through 12. This engaging programme is intended to supplement marine and environmental science courses by helping students appreciate the value of our oceans and their inhabitants.

While the live activities will be thrilling for spectators, viewers at home can also participate in the action. The SFC and CBS Sports Network announced a multi-year arrangement last month to broadcast live, high-stakes saltwater tournament action from the boats competing in the events. The unprecedented arrangement includes two hours of live final day tournament coverage from the SFC's 12 regular-season events on CBS Sports Network. Fans may also watch complete tournament coverage from start to finish at SportFishingChampionship.com.

In the next weeks, the SFC will reveal its corporate partners. Additionally, SportFishingChampionship.com will shortly publish the whole 2022 Sport Fishing Championship Inaugural Season Schedule.
