Samsung Pay wallet for Galaxy S22 series will enable cryptocurrencies

On Wednesday, Samsung announced the Galaxy S22 series, confirming all we already knew about the phones. Samsung has retired the Galaxy Note brand and replaced it with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. In other words, if you followed the leaks leading up to the Unpacked press conference, the Galaxy S22 event did not unveil any major shocks. However, there was one surprise from Samsung that will appeal to a specific type of Galaxy S22 buyer: cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

The Galaxy S22 phones come preloaded with a brand new Samsung Wallet app that accomplishes everything you'd expect from a smartphone digital wallet. Samsung Wallet, unlike the iPhone's Wallet software, will support crypto transactions using bitcoin and other digital tokens.
Samsung's desire to include bitcoin capability in their devices predates the Galaxy S22. On Galaxy devices, this capability is already accessible. It all started with the Samsung Blockchain Wallet on the Galaxy S10 a few years back. Samsung's Blockchain Wallet gained support for hardware wallets in May.

That was about the time of the spring 2021 crypto mania, when bitcoin hit a new all-time high.

Separately, Apple said that it has been monitoring the bitcoin market. However, Apple has yet to commit to adding bitcoin compatibility to its iOS Wallet app.
Similarly, Google is expanding its Google Pay ecosystem to include cryptocurrency compatibility. However, Google has not provided the same level of support for Samsung Wallet on the Galaxy S22 devices.

On the Galaxy S22, how does bitcoin work?

In terms of cryptocurrency transactions, Samsung hasn't spoken much about the new Samsung Wallet on the Galaxy S22. So far, we know that during the Unpacked event earlier this week, Samsung debuted a completely new Wallet.

During the Wallet part of the presentation, Samsung framed it all in less than 30 seconds:
If any of that sounds familiar, it's because the iPhone already has this capability. Many of the digital valuables listed by Samsung are handled by Apple's Wallet programme. Credit cards, boarding permits, transit cards, tickets, and reward/loyalty cards are all examples.

Our brand-new Samsung Wallet will keep all of your digital assets safe and secure in one spot. You'll be able to keep track of your identification cards, credit cards, passwords, keys, and even boarding passes.

So you don't have to carry as much, and you can get them from wherever. Samsung Wallet will also make it easier to access and study sophisticated digital products such as cryptocurrencies.

Krafton, the creator of PUBG, intends to join the Metaverse bandwagon.

Krafton, the South Korean game developer and creator of PUBG, has entered the NFT industry with a $6.5 billion investment in numerous startups, according to the company. Seoul Auction Blue received $2.5 million from the developer, while XBYBLUE received $4.1 million. In addition, it has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for its own NFT initiatives.

According to Krafton, the company's initial collaboration with Seoul Auction Blue and XBYBLUE will be led by Bluehole Studio, one of its game production teams. Both firms will be in charge of "developing and advertising NFT goods as well as managing KRAFTON's intellectual property."

The companies plan to create and sell NFT avatars that can be used in the metaverse in the future using Krafton's massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) server operation and next-generation graphics technologies.
