McDonald's Plans to Enter Metaverse with Virtual Restaurant

According to the company's recent trademark applications, fast-food powerhouse McDonald's is purportedly planning to join the metaverse.

The world's largest restaurant chain has submitted ten applications to sell virtual goods and beverages as downloadable media files containing NFTs.

The startup, which is based in Chicago, is planning to open a virtual café that will sell both real and virtual goods.

According to one of the trademark filings, McDonald's also aims to host other entertainment events in the metaverse, including concerts.

The patents were also filed under the McCafe brand, which will feature "online actual and virtual concerts" in addition to food and beverage.

According to one trademark expert, as the metaverse grows in popularity, the move could be significant for McDonald's. Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney and the proprietor of Gerben Perrott, PLLC, feels that the combination of virtual and physical features will be the winning combo. This will allow metaverse residents to order a McDonald's meal without having to leave the metaverse and go to the real world.

McDonald's is making this move at a time when nearly every other firm is looking into the metaverse. Users can explore companies, attend concerts, play games, attend meetings, communicate with friends, and more all from the comfort of their homes in this virtual environment, which merges parts of the real world with the virtual world.

Transmira is leading the way in the Bitcoin world with their Omniscape XR platform, which blends the finest of virtual and augmented reality. Omniscape was named one of the top three breakthroughs at CES, the world's largest consumer electronics exhibition, which took place in January.

"It's evident that this is coming when you see this critical mass of huge firms filing so many new trademark applications. I believe that within the next 12 months, every brand you can think of will file these documents. In an interview with Forbes, Gerben commented, "I don't think anyone wants to be the next Blockbuster and completely reject a new technology that's coming."
